Undergraduate thesis project

For my undergrad thesis, I studied the dynamics of the survival rates for South American fur seal pups (Arctocephalus australis) in Punta San Juan, Peru. The goal of the project was to describe the trend of this parameter using mark-recapture models and evaluate the effect of different variables on the pup’s survival on this important population. This was the first time this method was used for monitoring marine wildlife populations in Peru.

For this project, I used the data from more than 500 fur seal pups of different cohorts that were tagged and monitored daily and ran mark-recapture models using the software MARK.

I successfully defended my thesis in September 2019  and am on the process of writing a manuscript for the research paper.
